The true YOU

Let’s start with a simple question: who are you? Remember that we are not in a professional or social interaction so you should not use any of both label.

For example, I often listen answers like “I’m a doctor”, “I’m a student”, “I’m mum (or a dad)” and so on, but this is not who they really are.

Who are you when you are completely alone? What hobbies do you have? What is your dream and what you’ve been doing to achieve them? Who you BELIEVE you are, who you WANT to be and who you TRULY are, are usually not the same.

I always loved mathematics and, in my early days, I believed I’d be an engineer when I grew up, a scientist, or even a maths teacher, but the years passed and I developed a particular talent for storytelling, which I would not realise of until decades later. If I had read an amazing book or observed an interesting scene, I would tell it to my friends and family in details (including emotions and pauses) to drag the listener into the story and make them curios about it.

This passion led me into drama and, later on, journalism. What an exciting opportunity to tell stories to an enormous amount of people, I thought. And I wasn’t wrong. I loved it and did it very well for 15 years.

Life forces me to change my path and I ended up in an opposite world: finance.

But if you ask me who I truly am (unless I am on a work related conversation), my answer would probably be: I am a storyteller and a dreamer.

What do YOU do that makes you happy, that gives you a purpose and a sense of belonging?

This is who you are.

Once you’ve found the answer, think about what you’ve been doing to fulfil your true self?

You might find yourself thinking how sad you are for not be living your dream, for not being able to spend your day in the gym, or reading or traveling or chatting and having fun with your family and friends, and you will think that it’s all because you are stuck working for money to pay the bills and put food on the table. Guess what? You either don’t know who you are or what you want because, once you have this insight, you cannot keep being miserable all the time. You simply can’t.

You will find energy to fight for your dream; you will find time to live those moments of joy; you will discover how strong and capable you are and you WILL change your life.

Do you know why people in love do crazy things? Because they are deeply committed to it. Because their body is immersed in this ocean of chemicals that passion produces every time you think of that person, every time you are with that person. And you want more because you are addicted to it, to the way it makes you feel.

When you live with passion, you are motivated, nothing can stop you.

Now, imagine living your life in your full potential, doing what you love the most. What it would be? How far would you go to achieve it and how committed you are to start this amazing journey to your happiness?

I am Erika, a storyteller, a dreamer and a believer. I am trying to live my full potential and I believe I can. If I can, you can too.

Who are YOU?
