Why your dreams matter

Your dreams tell more about you than you'd like to admit. People have many different dreams: secret dreams, public dreams, realistic dreams, ambitious dreams, you name it. Whatever your dreams are, I am here to tell you that they exist to give you a purpose therefore, the rule number one is never deny your dreams.

I’ve asked people what their dreams were and heard all sorts of things like “to be rich”, “to have my late father back”, “to be a mum”, “that everyone on this planet was happy and safe” and this is my favourite “to end all diseases in the world”.

But when I asked what they were doing to make their dream real, some of them laughed and others just smiled acknowledging that they were not doing anything because the majority of their dreams were just impossible to achieve or, to say the least, not achievable by one person alone.

Most of the dreams are a hundred men job which can be one of the reasons why people give up on their dreams. But they shouldn’t. They should 'crack' their dreams instead.

First of all, a personal dream is related to your life, to you as an individual, something that is meaningful to you only. A passion, a strong desire, something that makes you forget about space and time. Something that makes you feel happy just by the thinking of it.

Mine is writing. My dream is to become a great novelist, but it's not the end game that makes me happy. I honestly don’t mind how many people are reading this now or have read my books. It’s not the output that moves me, but the journey. Knitting word by word together, observing my thoughts being translated into words is the most satisfying feeling for me. So I write blogs. I write books. I write letters. I write.. and write... and write.

You see? A dream does not necessarily need to be big, but meaningful to you, which leads us to the rule number 2: always listen to your inner child.

Your inner child is the part of you who has always been allowed to dream crazy and ambitious dreams without filter. And there is where your true self resides. Hidden behind all those walls you have built around your silly and innocent dreamer, the only part of you who should matter the most if you want to feel fulfilled.

If your inner child says they want to become an astronaut and you are now too old to start your spacial career, think it again.

What does be an astronaut mean to you? Is it the adventure, the challenge or the skills that made you dream about it? You may not be able to be an astronaut anymore, but it doesn’t need to be the end of your happiness. Do you get it?

When you know your dream, you know more about yourself and your potential. You question your life choices and your projected future. You make time for your dream to become who you want (and were meant) to be.

So, I’m going to ask you: what is your dream?
